About Our Series

History, Race, & A Way Forward is a Community Read & Conversation Series at Chapel Hill Public Library, designed to explore the intersection of history, race, and education. Through thought-provoking discussions, expert-led sessions, and community engagement, this series fosters a deeper understanding of the historical and systemic factors shaping education today.


What We’re Reading

Participants will engage with selected readings that examine education as a human right. Copies of the books are available for purchase at Flyleaf Books in Chapel Hill, with an option to purchase an additional copy for donation. A limited number of free copies are also available for those in need.


Featured Speakers

Each session includes discussions led by scholars, educators, and advocates for racial and educational justice, including:

  • Cornell Watson – Photography & Artist Talk

  • Dr. Iheoma Iruka – UNC School of Public Health

  • Omo Moses – Founder/CEO of MathTalk

  • Gwen Atwater – Veteran Educator, CHCCS

Event Details

  • Doors open at 5:30 PM for food, artistic performances, and fellowship before each session.
